Can new turf go straight over my old grass?
Lift the old grass first. Roots take hold far better in loosened, levelled soil.
Where does the old grass go?
Pile it upside down in a corner and it breaks down into soil over time, or take it to a recycling centre. A turf laying quote can cover waste removal where needed.
